November 2010

We lost one of Texas's most beloved figures last week when our dear friend and family member State Representative Edmund Kuempel passed away on November 4th.   As we went to his district office the day before the funeral, there was the drawing I did of Edmund back in 1983.  I was 25 years old when I first worked for him that year and he was only 40, but I remembered thinking then how old age 40 seemed to me then.  That seems very young to me now.  We'll miss you Edmund!

October 2010

The Book Release Party for The Republic of Austin by Jeff Kerr was well attended, as the author and I signed for two straight hours.  Later that week, we signed at a Houston book store and on October 16-17, it was the Texas Book Festival on the State Capitol grounds.

Here's the 11" x 14" art print, of which we have very few left.    Thank you to everyone who attended!

And here is the book cover...

August 2010 - What's in the works

Busy year already--- The new business Texas Swagger, www.TexasSwagger.com is going well with a steady stream of UT fans wanting THE shirt.  You can order on our web site, the UT Co-op, or Texas Stores.

I am working on the next Legislative print for the 82nd Session and will finish it by December.

January 2010 -Capitol Linoleum Club on Facebook

For you Facebook afficianados who remember the wonderful cramped cafeteria in the Texas Capitol basement in the old days, search for "Capitol Linoleum Club" on Facebook and share some memories with friends.  Otis the cashier, frito pie, Club Doran, and the fried burrito are just some of the topics discussed. There are also a few photos of the LC before it closed down.

January 2010 - Colt McCoy

Thank you for an amazing career at Texas and best wishes for the future!

June 2009 - 81st Session Lithograph Building Texas

You can order this end of legislative session lithograph now.  It features the Texas Capitol during its construction around 1887-1888.

Austin Chronicle- My friend Mike Robertson emailed me that Building Texas was in the AC.  I heard several Senators had them signed by their colleagues on the Senate floor.  Here's the photo, with State Senator Robert Duncan (left):

I was lucky to get selected to produce the print for the Texas Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball this year.  Over 13,000 of the prints were given to sponsors and attendees, plus it was funny to have my name announced every time one of the bands took a break that night.  So I gave a print to my friend Jennifer who works in the Texas Capitol, who then shows it to her grandmother.  Her grandmother is very excited and Googles me--finds this site and reads on.  "This guy is a big deal, Jennifer," she says.     "No grandmother, he's NOT a big deal," Jennifer replies.  One of my favorite stories.

November 2008 - London Charity Event short film

Devilishly Handsome Productions has now produced a short film on the London Charity Event at http://www.altius-associates.com/Art-Exhibition_video.htm    I donated two paintings for the event held in The Mall Galleries in London in September.   The event raised £37,000 for three great charities.  My painting Stonehenge is used as a design feature during two interviews toward the end of the film.

The first is a very small 4" x 4" painting of the Shrinking 1.   The pencil is photographed here for effect.  Since I did not use a magnifier for this painting, and my eyes were shot after the experience, I won't be painting too many of these in the future.   Next is Stonehenge, from a wonderful moment at the site last year.  For a larger image, click on either painting.
