The Linoleum Club Membership
(Capitol newcomers need not apply.)
Are you a
member of the Linoleum Club? Veterans of the Capitol recall this wonderful
little cafeteria in its cramped basement location on the Senate side.
The smell of Frito pie and popcorn circulated the building as some of
the biggest bills in Texas history were ironed out at the Linoleum Club.
Sadly, we lost this treasure as the building was renovated in the 1990s.
Each signed and numbered print retails for $25 (sales tax and shipping
included) and is specially embossed to certify your membership in the
Linoleum Club.

Trivia: How did the Linoleum Club get its name? We recall a story we heard that in the old days, it was common for reporters to get their lunches paid for by the lobby. One day a reporter for the Dallas Morning News was in the Capitol basement and ready to leave to be treated at the Headliners Club, when he asked another reporter to join him. The second reporter said he would just grab a sandwich at the "Linoleum Club." The great phrase stuck and a legend was born.
