Inauguration Day News
Capitol Gallery was one of two vendors selected by the 2002 Governor's
Inaugural Committee to set up on the Capitol grounds and the parade
route on Congress Avenue. We want to thank all our customers and friends
who dropped by. Several TV stations and newspapers photographed and
interviewed us, including KVUE-ABC Austin. Click here to see photos of that day.
Our friends, the band Sisters Morales stopped by the Capitol booth.
The band played at the Inauguration BBQ and was a great hit! You can
visit them at www.sistersmorales.com.
Behind the Painting
The first study of "Inauguration Day" was started in 1996 when I first began to paint with oils. The original is more impressionistic, and the dome of the Capitol somehow ended up out of proportion. In the middle of "Inauguration Day," I was hired to paint a portrait for the film Waiting for Guffman. Read about my 5 seconds of fame in the film. After finishing that project, I decided to store "Inauguration Day" away. Six years passed before I decided to start over again. Luckily, I finished it just in time for the 2002 Inaugural.
